The Dhampir son of a nameless woman died of exposure and blood related illness in a mountain pass outside of Ishgard. While the priests may have failed to save the mother, they managed to save the child she was carrying. Grim was raised in an orphanage in Ishgard, until the already unusual child developed talents and predilections that revealed the truth of his vampiric heritage. Shunned for his abnormalities, he became a student shadow, mastering the skills of the Dark Knight, fueled by a hunger for respect, amongst other things.
